Narrative:
After calling in sick for my trip; I was told by the crew scheduler that I had to listen to a statement. The statement was rather intimidating and apparently aimed at only the narrow-body first officers at air carrier. The statement basically referenced the fact that I would now be required to produce a doctor's certificate to prove that I am indeed sick! In 9 years of employment at the air carrier; I have never been asked to provide any documentation as to why I am unfit to fly! I believe this new policy is going to cause many unfit pilots to fly when they are ill due to the fear of punishment. Please consider the ramifications of this new policy and its effect on flight safety.
Original NASA ASRS Text
