Narrative:
Installed incorrect life vest part numbers to flight attendant and captain's location. This occurred at ZZZ airport while doing line maintenance. Event involved mechanic and lead mechanic. After some investigation; it was determined by lead mechanic and myself that the wrong captain's and flight attendant's life vest were installed. Once the event had been idented the aircraft was immediately held from further flight until the correct life vest could be installed to the captain's and flight attendant's locations. After which the aircraft was returned to service with no delays or cancellations from maintenance. Was provided wrong life vest from parts department initially; and this was not noticed by my lead. All believed life vest to be correct part number.
