Narrative:
On departure clearance to turn south climb 17000 ft cleared direct to blues; as we are turning noticed map showing way to north and then noticed miles over 5000 ft. Was in the process of retyping fix name when ATC asked if we are going to blues. I responded with saying that I was confirming fix on our programmed route. ATC gave us a turn back to south and leveloff at 9000 ft; then we were cleared to ldn. First officer loaded the route; I confirmed; did not notice the wrong blues. I admit to seeing this kind of mistake before but have always been flagged by insufficient fuel message or a major time discrepancy. Not this time. On frequency change I did apologize to ATC and his reply was no problem. Supplemental information from acn 796651: I was the first officer flying. Captain did walkaround while I loaded the box. Normally I do walkaround and I just came off a 2 1/2 yr LOA. I put in route; went to plan mode to verify but the IRS's weren't aligned yet so I was going to come back to it (forgot). I checked the legs page but not the distance; took off and departure cleared us direct to blues intersection. It was the wrong blues intersection so the aircraft turned us to the north. Just as all of this was not 'looking right' the captain was reentering the new intersection; ATC told us to level at 9000 ft and turn to 190 degrees due to traffic conflict. No TCAS alert but we got everyone's attention. It was a loading error on my part; we told the controller it was our error and apologized; he said no problem good day.

Title: A B757-200 FLT CREW DEPARTING IAD DEVIATED FROM THEIR CLEARED TRACK BECAUSE THE FO LOADED THE WRONG FIX DURING PREFLIGHT.
Narrative: ON DEP CLRNC TO TURN S CLB 17000 FT CLRED DIRECT TO BLUES; AS WE ARE TURNING NOTICED MAP SHOWING WAY TO N AND THEN NOTICED MILES OVER 5000 FT. WAS IN THE PROCESS OF RETYPING FIX NAME WHEN ATC ASKED IF WE ARE GOING TO BLUES. I RESPONDED WITH SAYING THAT I WAS CONFIRMING FIX ON OUR PROGRAMMED RTE. ATC GAVE US A TURN BACK TO S AND LEVELOFF AT 9000 FT; THEN WE WERE CLRED TO LDN. FO LOADED THE RTE; I CONFIRMED; DID NOT NOTICE THE WRONG BLUES. I ADMIT TO SEEING THIS KIND OF MISTAKE BEFORE BUT HAVE ALWAYS BEEN FLAGGED BY INSUFFICIENT FUEL MESSAGE OR A MAJOR TIME DISCREPANCY. NOT THIS TIME. ON FREQ CHANGE I DID APOLOGIZE TO ATC AND HIS REPLY WAS NO PROB. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 796651: I WAS THE FO FLYING. CAPT DID WALKAROUND WHILE I LOADED THE BOX. NORMALLY I DO WALKAROUND AND I JUST CAME OFF A 2 1/2 YR LOA. I PUT IN RTE; WENT TO PLAN MODE TO VERIFY BUT THE IRS'S WEREN'T ALIGNED YET SO I WAS GOING TO COME BACK TO IT (FORGOT). I CHKED THE LEGS PAGE BUT NOT THE DISTANCE; TOOK OFF AND DEP CLRED US DIRECT TO BLUES INTXN. IT WAS THE WRONG BLUES INTXN SO THE ACFT TURNED US TO THE N. JUST AS ALL OF THIS WAS NOT 'LOOKING RIGHT' THE CAPT WAS REENTERING THE NEW INTXN; ATC TOLD US TO LEVEL AT 9000 FT AND TURN TO 190 DEGS DUE TO TFC CONFLICT. NO TCAS ALERT BUT WE GOT EVERYONE'S ATTN. IT WAS A LOADING ERROR ON MY PART; WE TOLD THE CTLR IT WAS OUR ERROR AND APOLOGIZED; HE SAID NO PROB GOOD DAY.
