Narrative:
After gear retraction the amber gear door light remained illuminated. Complied with QRH procedure and airspeed restrs. Called back to the flight attendants to see if they felt any unusual vibration or sounds in the wing area of the mid cabin. They reported a slight vibration just aft of the wing. We continued to ZZZ. When the gear was selected down; we had 3 green but the gear door open light was still on. We then complied with QRH procedures to include the gear door position check. We concluded that looking out the main landing gear visual position periscope may give us information on the position of the gear doors. The first officer went back and looked out the periscope and said that it looked like the gear doors were open. I then declared an emergency and informed approach that we would have to stop on the runway and have the gear pinned and the main landing gear doors secured. We then complied with the remainder of QRH if gear door is open procedure. Landed and came to a stop straight ahead. Maintenance secured the doors with ropes and pinned the gear.

Title: MD80 FLT CREW EXPERIENCES GEAR DOORS OPEN ANOMALY ON SHORT TRIP. CONTINUE TO DESTINATION; DECLARE EMERGENCY AND LAND SAFELY.
Narrative: AFTER GEAR RETRACTION THE AMBER GEAR DOOR LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. COMPLIED WITH QRH PROC AND AIRSPD RESTRS. CALLED BACK TO THE FLT ATTENDANTS TO SEE IF THEY FELT ANY UNUSUAL VIBRATION OR SOUNDS IN THE WING AREA OF THE MID CABIN. THEY RPTED A SLIGHT VIBRATION JUST AFT OF THE WING. WE CONTINUED TO ZZZ. WHEN THE GEAR WAS SELECTED DOWN; WE HAD 3 GREEN BUT THE GEAR DOOR OPEN LIGHT WAS STILL ON. WE THEN COMPLIED WITH QRH PROCS TO INCLUDE THE GEAR DOOR POS CHK. WE CONCLUDED THAT LOOKING OUT THE MAIN LNDG GEAR VISUAL POS PERISCOPE MAY GIVE US INFO ON THE POS OF THE GEAR DOORS. THE FO WENT BACK AND LOOKED OUT THE PERISCOPE AND SAID THAT IT LOOKED LIKE THE GEAR DOORS WERE OPEN. I THEN DECLARED AN EMER AND INFORMED APCH THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO STOP ON THE RWY AND HAVE THE GEAR PINNED AND THE MAIN LNDG GEAR DOORS SECURED. WE THEN COMPLIED WITH THE REMAINDER OF QRH IF GEAR DOOR IS OPEN PROC. LANDED AND CAME TO A STOP STRAIGHT AHEAD. MAINT SECURED THE DOORS WITH ROPES AND PINNED THE GEAR.
