Narrative:
We departed at approximately XA30 today and flew direct to boyne mt (bfa). I filed a VFR flight plan prior to the flight. I received an online briefing from duats prior to departing. I reviewed NOTAMS via duats prior to the flight. Upon arriving at bfa at approximately XD00 we overflew the field and made a call on the CTAF. Upon landing we were told by airport personnel that the runway was closed at XC00. I asked the manager why there were no X's on the runway to identify it as being closed. He stated that they had not yet gotten around to putting them out. He also stated that the NOTAM about the airport closure likely did not become available until we were already enroute. It would be helpful if NOTAMS regarding runway/airport closures were made available on duats at least three days prior to the scheduled closure date. Also; X's should be used to delineate a closed runway especially at non-towered fields such as this one.

Title: A PA28 PLT LANDED ON A CLOSED RWY AT BFA.
Narrative: WE DEPARTED AT APPROX XA30 TODAY AND FLEW DIRECT TO BOYNE MT (BFA). I FILED A VFR FLT PLAN PRIOR TO THE FLT. I RECEIVED AN ONLINE BRIEFING FROM DUATS PRIOR TO DEPARTING. I REVIEWED NOTAMS VIA DUATS PRIOR TO THE FLT. UPON ARRIVING AT BFA AT APPROX XD00 WE OVERFLEW THE FIELD AND MADE A CALL ON THE CTAF. UPON LNDG WE WERE TOLD BY ARPT PERSONNEL THAT THE RWY WAS CLOSED AT XC00. I ASKED THE MANAGER WHY THERE WERE NO X'S ON THE RWY TO IDENTIFY IT AS BEING CLOSED. HE STATED THAT THEY HAD NOT YET GOTTEN AROUND TO PUTTING THEM OUT. HE ALSO STATED THAT THE NOTAM ABOUT THE ARPT CLOSURE LIKELY DID NOT BECOME AVAILABLE UNTIL WE WERE ALREADY ENROUTE. IT WOULD BE HELPFUL IF NOTAMS REGARDING RWY/ARPT CLOSURES WERE MADE AVAILABLE ON DUATS AT LEAST THREE DAYS PRIOR TO THE SCHEDULED CLOSURE DATE. ALSO; X'S SHOULD BE USED TO DELINEATE A CLOSED RWY ESPECIALLY AT NON-TOWERED FIELDS SUCH AS THIS ONE.
