Narrative:
I went to ZZZ to take a CFI check ride; and after passing the check ride I went back to the plane for preflight. After doing a walkaround; I got in and taxied. On takeoff when I rotated; there was a slight thud then everything was normal. When I got back to ZZZ1; I could not find the tow bar and it made sense that I didn't do a thorough preflight and left it attached to the nosewheel. I immediately called ZZZ tower and told them so they could sweep the runway and soon after they called me back said they found it off to the side of the runway. I went and picked it up and nothing else was said about it. I guess I was caught up in the excitement of being a new CFI and was wanting to get home to tell my friends and I rushed the preflight. Lesson learned on actually thinking about what I'm looking at instead of going through the motions; and an additional walkaround will now be a part of my preflts.
