Narrative:
Off ZZZ about 12 SM south in control with ZZZ departure. About 1700 ft AGL in a climb when engine got very loud and rough; then lost total power. Set up for off airport landing in a weed field about 2+ mi sse from my position of about 18 SM from the ZZZ1 130 degree radial. That was the only option so I had to make it work. Total of 3 on board aircraft.
