Narrative:
Upon arrival to aircraft; the captain from the inbound flight greeted me and told me the door assist was not working properly. Maintenance came and deferred the door per MEL. I called assistant chief pilot about my concern to taking the aircraft with the door able to free-fall onto someone when it is opened. He told me to disregard note #1 and note #3 of the MEL. These 2 notes specifically have ground personnel clear of the door when opening and only to have them assist in closing the door. He instructed me to have ramp personnel open the door and assist the door down to the ground. I asked him about the note #1 states 'stand clear of door when opening (door opens faster).' his stance was I was to have ramp workers open the door in direct contradiction to the MEL notes. I do not feel comfortable being told to purposely violate written instructions in the FAA approved MEL.
