Narrative:
While descending from FL400 to cross flipr intersection at 10000 ft we encountered severe turbulence for about 4 seconds at approximately 30000 ft. No previous warnings and nothing showing on the radar. Seat belt sign was on. After being informed of injuries in the back we declared a medical emergency and landed uneventfully. The extent of the injuries is unknown at this time. Medical personnel were dispatched to help our passenger and crew. Supplemental information from acn 808197: I made a PA and was starting on the checklist when we encountered severe turbulence. We contacted the purser who informed us there were several injuries. Supplemental information from acn 808196: we encountered severe turbulence for approximately 2-3 seconds. All was smooth before and after. Nothing appeared on radar nor were there any lightning flashes visible. 4 flight attendants and approximately 4 passenger were injured.
