Narrative:

At XA23 on the day prior; scheduling attempted to assign a 1 day flight with an XM30 approximately showtime to a 1 day left pilot evening reserve captain on XT00 to XK00 the following day with 12 hours approximately notice. I thought it over and said that I'd have to leave my house at XK00 to get there -- I am 1 hour 45 mins to the hotel. We park in ZZZ and the hotel van takes 45 mins to get to the airport when busy. I said short term parking would help; scheduling authorized it. But thinking again; I said 'wait a min; I usually go to sleep at xk and wake up about XS30 to stay in my availability period of activity. I'd have to go to sleep now and there's no way I'd get to sleep until late night. That's only 3 hours or less of sleep. I will be too fatigued to fly this trip. You can either sick me out or fatigue me out; but I cannot fly this trip.' after a few mins; scheduling said they would show me sick for my avail period tomorrow and did I need to be on sick leave for the remainder of my avail period? I said no; this is when I am ready to fly. Although 12 hours notice for any avail period is in accordance with the contract and far; it is not safe -- especially when the avail periods are near in complete opposition; ie; sleep at XK00 wake at XK00 instead. Scheduling should attempt to assign these trips to reserves who are in that avail period even if they are available for longer periods than the trip. I was good for 1 day and the trip was 1 day; but it would not have been safe for me to accept it. Unsafe scheduling.

Title: A RESERVE ACR CAPT IS ASSIGNED A TRIP TWELVE HRS BEFORE FLT TIME BUT OPPOSITE HIS TWELVE HR SCHEDULED RESERVE WINDOW (AM-PM-AM). THE TRIP WAS REFUSED.

Narrative: AT XA23 ON THE DAY PRIOR; SCHEDULING ATTEMPTED TO ASSIGN A 1 DAY FLT WITH AN XM30 APPROX SHOWTIME TO A 1 DAY LEFT PLT EVENING RESERVE CAPT ON XT00 TO XK00 THE FOLLOWING DAY WITH 12 HRS APPROX NOTICE. I THOUGHT IT OVER AND SAID THAT I'D HAVE TO LEAVE MY HOUSE AT XK00 TO GET THERE -- I AM 1 HR 45 MINS TO THE HOTEL. WE PARK IN ZZZ AND THE HOTEL VAN TAKES 45 MINS TO GET TO THE ARPT WHEN BUSY. THAT'S ONLY 3 HRS OR LESS OF SLEEP. ALTHOUGH 12 HRS NOTICE FOR ANY AVAIL PERIOD IS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONTRACT AND FAR; IT IS NOT SAFE -- ESPECIALLY WHEN THE AVAIL PERIODS ARE NEAR IN COMPLETE OPPOSITION; IE; SLEEP AT XK00 WAKE AT XK00 INSTEAD.
