Narrative:
Conditions: moderate rain at west end of runway; darkness and poor lighting; runway assignment in the descent. Briefed crew on runway from ypdn commercial chart. Landed at ypdn on runway 29. Tower instructed us to roll to the end; make a 180 turn; backtrack on runway; and exit at taxiway B2. Due to poor visibility out of the side window; because of rain and the lack of adequate lighting; we could not make out the hammerhead turnaround area depicted on the ypdn commercial chart. We made the 180 turn per the instructions box on commercial chart; I rolled to the threshold and made a left 180 turn on the threshold toward the hammerhead. The pavement past the threshold was not mark as an unusable area so we used it to complete our turnaround. Taxied to B2 taxiway where we exited the runway. Later found out the pavement broke up due to it being an unusable area. No damage was caused to the aircraft.
