Narrative:
During cruise just before descent into ZZZ 'flaps fail' caution message appeared (flaps were at zero). I flew the aircraft and had the first officer run the appropriate cfm checklist per company policy. We contacted dispatch through ZZZ operations and I notified the flight attendant of the situation. I also made an announcement informing the passenger that we would be landing a little bit faster than usual; etc. As an added precaution; I declared an emergency and had the trucks wait for us. The actual approach and landing was uneventful. We stopped on the runway and had the firefighters doublechk our brakes for fire even though the brakes were actually very cool (I had the idea that maybe they would have heated up a lot more than usual). The firefighters found no issues with our aircraft; so we continued to the gate and deplaned without further event.
