Narrative:
Taxied to lead in line for gate in ZZZ. Observed a single ramper running around the area moving chocks and preparing for our arrival. He activated the accu-park system and I continued taxiing. I followed his guidance via the accu-park and stopped the aircraft when directed. We then noticed the jetway driver was having trouble getting the jetway to the aircraft. Eventually; it was determined that we were parked on the wrong spot and that we would have to be pushed back. I estimate we were pushed back approximately 60 ft to the proper stop point for the A320. As we were being pushed back; I noticed that we had been stopped on the stop point for the B777; A300; A330 aircraft. After we were finally parked at the proper spot and were unloading our passenger; I spoke with the passenger agent that had driven the jetway and she informed me that we had missed striking the jetway with the #1 cowl by approximately 6 inches. I was of course very shocked to hear this. I phoned the on duty flight manager and informed him of these events. He told me he would follow up with the appropriate departments.
