Narrative:
Approximately 30 mins prior to departure; I picked up ATIS and clearance to ZZZ. The clearance was: 'cleared to ZZZ; silow one departure; bce transition; squawk...' I took the departure procedures out of the aircraft and went into the FBO where the first officer and I both reviewed the departure (silow one). After reviewing the departure we both incorrectly agreed we needed to maintain 1550 ft MSL until 4 DME east of pxr VOR. After departing runway 7R and establishing radar contact; departure control instructed us to 'climb immediately to 7000 ft -- terrain alert.' I believe the wording for the departure (silow one) could be more clearly worded to prevent an incorrect understanding. For example: fly runway heading; climb to 7000 ft; at 1550 ft; turn left heading 070 degrees; at 4 DME east of pxr; turn left heading 045 degrees.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CE550 FLT CREW MISINTERPRETS SILOW1 DEPARTURE; INTENDING TO MAINTAIN 1550 FEET UNTIL 4NM EAST OF PXR. DEPARTURE INSTRUCTS IMMEDIATE CLIMB TO 7000 FEET FOR LOW ALTITUDE ALERT.
Narrative: APPROX 30 MINS PRIOR TO DEP; I PICKED UP ATIS AND CLRNC TO ZZZ. THE CLRNC WAS: 'CLRED TO ZZZ; SILOW ONE DEP; BCE TRANSITION; SQUAWK...' I TOOK THE DEP PROCS OUT OF THE ACFT AND WENT INTO THE FBO WHERE THE FO AND I BOTH REVIEWED THE DEP (SILOW ONE). AFTER REVIEWING THE DEP WE BOTH INCORRECTLY AGREED WE NEEDED TO MAINTAIN 1550 FT MSL UNTIL 4 DME E OF PXR VOR. AFTER DEPARTING RWY 7R AND ESTABLISHING RADAR CONTACT; DEP CTL INSTRUCTED US TO 'CLB IMMEDIATELY TO 7000 FT -- TERRAIN ALERT.' I BELIEVE THE WORDING FOR THE DEP (SILOW ONE) COULD BE MORE CLRLY WORDED TO PREVENT AN INCORRECT UNDERSTANDING. FOR EXAMPLE: FLY RWY HDG; CLB TO 7000 FT; AT 1550 FT; TURN L HDG 070 DEGS; AT 4 DME E OF PXR; TURN L HDG 045 DEGS.
