Narrative:
While collecting data; VFR with tas; potomac approach issued a call to turn left to 050 degrees; about a left 130 degree heading change. An autopilot turn was immediately selected. As the airplane angle of bank reached 30 degrees and the left turn was in progress; I visually acquired the B737; climbing about 3;000f ft low on a direct collision path with our path. I immediately increased angle of bank and the B737 started a left turn. Track divergence was established with no further communications.
