Narrative:
During the flight; I was informed that a passenger was ill and was being given oxygen. During the approach phase of the flight; I was informed that a doctor was being requested from among the passengers to assist with the passenger. During final approach; the flap handle was placed to the 5 degree position. The flaps were observed to stop asymmetrically with one indicating more than 1 degree and the other less than 2 degrees. The approach was discontinued and vectors were taken from ZZZ approach while the checklists were run. An emergency was declared for the aircraft abnormal and emergency vehicles were requested to stand by. An approach was flown to ZZZ with an uneventful landing. After clearing the runway; we were informed by the flight attendants that paramedics were requested to come to the aircraft to assist our ill passenger. The request was passed along and we proceeded to the gate. Paramedics arrived and assisted the passenger.
