Narrative:

During the climb; the right egt indication began fluctuating erratically on both the EICAS screen and the sei. All other engine indications were normal and the fluctuations never exceeded any limit. The egt indication then went to about 20 degrees C and remained there with very minor fluctuations. After consulting with dispatch and maintenance; I elected to return to ZZZ. An emergency was declared due to the impending overweight landing. The aircraft did not have a fuel jettison system. The landing was normal at a weight of 356;000 pounds. The taxi and gate arrival were normal.
