Narrative:
On vectors to right base leg, runway 25R at lax, told to follow widebody transport landing runway 25L. Vector 170 degree heading given by ATC turned us inside widebody transport. We slowed up as much as possible but joined final side by side. I think the controller was planning on us trailing the widebody transport by 1 1/2 mi, which would have been more uncomfortable with the surface wind 240 degrees/10. I think controllers were practicing tighter sep for next day's closure of a runway. In the future I would like to be ahead of heavy aircraft or 5 mi in trail. I did not realize the actual distance between runway 25L and 25R or I would have requested a different runway. In the past I have had aircraft side by side with me on close together runways at dfw, den and lax. This requires both plane's crews to stay on their toes and track their runway centerline with no drifting.

Title: MLG AND WDB CAME IN CLOSE PROX WHILE FLYING PARALLEL VISUAL APCHES DUE TO PROBLEM WITH ATC VECTORS AT LAX.
Narrative: ON VECTORS TO RIGHT BASE LEG, RWY 25R AT LAX, TOLD TO FOLLOW WDB LNDG RWY 25L. VECTOR 170 DEG HDG GIVEN BY ATC TURNED US INSIDE WDB. WE SLOWED UP AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE BUT JOINED FINAL SIDE BY SIDE. I THINK THE CTLR WAS PLANNING ON US TRAILING THE WDB BY 1 1/2 MI, WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THE SURFACE WIND 240 DEGS/10. I THINK CTLRS WERE PRACTICING TIGHTER SEP FOR NEXT DAY'S CLOSURE OF A RWY. IN THE FUTURE I WOULD LIKE TO BE AHEAD OF HVY ACFT OR 5 MI IN TRAIL. I DID NOT REALIZE THE ACTUAL DISTANCE BTWN RWY 25L AND 25R OR I WOULD HAVE REQUESTED A DIFFERENT RWY. IN THE PAST I HAVE HAD ACFT SIDE BY SIDE WITH ME ON CLOSE TOGETHER RWYS AT DFW, DEN AND LAX. THIS REQUIRES BOTH PLANE'S CREWS TO STAY ON THEIR TOES AND TRACK THEIR RWY CENTERLINE WITH NO DRIFTING.
