Narrative:
Aircraft battery received in shop; on shop order; as an exchange with air carrier X. Charging component of aircraft battery failed shop test as was to be routed to ZZZ1 shop for repair. Upon preparing to ship; I determined the part might be an unapproved part. A history check of the aircraft battery showed it was previously an air carrier Y part. Aircraft battery showed it had been scrapped in march/2004 against headquarter records. I checked my paper records -- this was correct (scrape tag) end of paper trail for air carrier Y. Part has a sticker that indicates repair station. Ohc date october/2004 work order and another sticker; modified per service bulletin 60-1177-33. My concern is; if air carrier Y determined this part to be rejected. 1) how did this part/serial number end up back in aircraft parts supply? 2) proper documentation of how our air carrier has a part/serial number on aircraft that scraped years ago. 3) where has this part been in the meantime?
