Narrative:
As we were turning off taxiway B onto taxiway G; we received a 'bagg smoke' on the EICAS. We fired the bottle; as per memory item; and looked up the procedure. We advised the flight attendant to look through the peephole; and she said she saw what she thought was smoke; she did not report any flames; though; and as we considered she may be looking at the halon discharge; we decided we had best call crash fire rescue equipment to confirm our status. The fire trucks arrived; and using their flir; saw no evidence of a fire; so we felt the safest course of action was to taxi to the gate and deplane. When the compartment was opened; there was no evidence of fire/smoke.
