Narrative:

Departing out of dtw off runway 21R; we hit a number of medium to large birds climbing through 1;800 ft MSL while on a heading of 150 degrees. We know there were at least 2 strikes; one damaging the left landing light cover and the other ingesting (at least partially) to the left engine. No erratic engine indications occurred with the exception of the left ignition light illuminating for a few seconds. Captain notified tower and he cleared us for landing runway 21L. I turned left 035 degrees to join a left downwind and leveled at 2;300 ft. Captain was on the intercommunication with dispatcher coordinating with her. I was on com #1 with tower and landed without further incident. Left engine was not shut down because all indications were normal and it was responding normally to control inputs. After inspection; birds were identified as ducks; most of which were in bird catcher with a small (puree) amount farther in inlet up to guide vanes. Birds were not visible until they crossed (right to left) in front of the landing lights maybe 20 ft in front of nose with a couple of thumps not even a second later.
