Narrative:
After takeoff; received a left engine oil pressure warning message. Ran QRH even though the message extinguished almost immediately. Conferred with dispatch and maintenance control and decided to return. We received the same message twice more on approach. Due to the air return; we landed overweight with a touchdown about 500 FPM. The event was caused by low oil pressure in the left engine causing the warning message. Also noticed the pressure was fluctuating between 33-42 psi; and 25-30 psi lower than the right engine. The aircraft also had a maintenance history for oil problems with the left engine.
