Narrative:
Private pleasure flight for sightseeing. During cruise flight, the engine quit and a restart was unsuccessful. An emergency landing was accomplished in a muddy farm field. No injuries or property damage occurred. Minor aircraft damage resulted. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: this was the second leg of a dual cross country flight. Aircraft was rented from a FBO and had been fueled the night before this flight. A complete preflight was performed with only a small amount of water found when sumps were drained. The FAA is investigating the incident.

Title: GA SMA FORCED LNDG WHEN ENGINE QUIT AT TOC.
Narrative: PVT PLEASURE FLT FOR SIGHTSEEING. DURING CRUISE FLT, THE ENG QUIT AND A RESTART WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. AN EMER LNDG WAS ACCOMPLISHED IN A MUDDY FARM FIELD. NO INJURIES OR PROPERTY DAMAGE OCCURRED. MINOR ACFT DAMAGE RESULTED. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: THIS WAS THE SECOND LEG OF A DUAL XCOUNTRY FLT. ACFT WAS RENTED FROM A FBO AND HAD BEEN FUELED THE NIGHT BEFORE THIS FLT. A COMPLETE PREFLT WAS PERFORMED WITH ONLY A SMALL AMOUNT OF WATER FOUND WHEN SUMPS WERE DRAINED. THE FAA IS INVESTIGATING THE INCIDENT.
