Narrative:
Approaching carleton VOR en route to dtw, the previous controller requested we keep our speed at 320 KIAS, 10000'. New sector controller gave us a crossing of 8000', 10 mi east of carleton. A hefty southwest tailwind plus the additional 70 KTS of airspeed that the new controller may not have been aware of put us in a box that we could only get out of by throwing out speed brakes and slats. I chose not to do that. In retrospect, we should have refused the crossing restriction or at least advised dtw approach on our new frequency that we were not able to make the crossing. But these days, you don't know who is going to make a fuss about what. We came down with all due haste and there was no traffic conflict.

Title: LGT MISSED CROSSING RESTRICTION 10 MILES EAST OF CRL, DIDN'T ADVISE ATC THAT HE WOULD NOT MAKE IT.
Narrative: APCHING CARLETON VOR ENRTE TO DTW, THE PREVIOUS CTLR REQUESTED WE KEEP OUR SPD AT 320 KIAS, 10000'. NEW SECTOR CTLR GAVE US A XING OF 8000', 10 MI E OF CARLETON. A HEFTY SW TAILWIND PLUS THE ADDITIONAL 70 KTS OF AIRSPD THAT THE NEW CTLR MAY NOT HAVE BEEN AWARE OF PUT US IN A BOX THAT WE COULD ONLY GET OUT OF BY THROWING OUT SPD BRAKES AND SLATS. I CHOSE NOT TO DO THAT. IN RETROSPECT, WE SHOULD HAVE REFUSED THE XING RESTRICTION OR AT LEAST ADVISED DTW APCH ON OUR NEW FREQ THAT WE WERE NOT ABLE TO MAKE THE XING. BUT THESE DAYS, YOU DON'T KNOW WHO IS GOING TO MAKE A FUSS ABOUT WHAT. WE CAME DOWN WITH ALL DUE HASTE AND THERE WAS NO TFC CONFLICT.
