Narrative:
Aircraft had numerous previous write-ups for loud squeal from captain's window. Received a phone call from previous captain who had just flown from lax; he described the noise as unbearable and advised me to not let them defer the window. Refused the airplane after dispatch informed me that maintenance was not scheduled. Maintenance then 'repaired' the airplane and we departed for ZZZZ. At approximately FL270 and 6.2 pressure differential; noise started. Noise was extreme; making communications extremely difficult and causing physical pain. I even considered vacating the captain's position to get away from the noise. Consulted with dispatch and maintenance control and decided to return to departure airport. Maintenance and dispatch agreed with decision to land overweight. Dispatch supplied landing data; flight manual was consulted. Landing was smooth and uneventful.
