Narrative:
After takeoff and during gear retraction. I leaned forward to raise the gear level and as I did so; the HUD released; fell; and hit me on the head. I later developed a headache and was pulled from the trip for an on the job injury. I checked the latch several times and could not find any notable defects. I believe it was just not stowed correctly. Increased awareness to ensue the HUD is properly stowed.
