Narrative:
On takeoff roll hnl; runway 22L; we noticed a dark helicopter also taking off down field; parallel to runway 22L along lagoon drive. On rotation; I was surprised and noticed the helicopter started to drift over our runway. Eventually; the helicopter drifted over our climb flight path. I shallowed our climb rate immediately after rotation to keep us under the helicopter and continued a normal climb after passing under him. Our estimate of passing distance of both aircraft was approximately 300 ft. We received no TCAS RA as we were under 500 ft. It was a busy afternoon and I avoided query to the tower. When time permitted; we did query hcf center about the helicopter; but they had no information.
