Narrative:

The bkw VORTAC has been out of service for several months. Today I learned that there are no plans to repair the existing VORTAC. Instead; the FAA has ordered a new VOR with doppler. The problem is that the new equipment is on back order for several months then it will take another 3-4 months to install the new one. The bkw VORTAC is not only a high altitude NAVAID; it also has several different approaches that rely on the VORTAC for not only approach references; but missed approach procedures. Due to the mountainous terrain in the area; the bkw VORTAC is a vital piece of equipment used for navigation that should not be out of service for any type of extended period. This is another case of trying to save money at the expense of aviation safety.
