Narrative:
We departed and climbed to a cruise FL360. Shortly into the flight the flight attendant reported something burning. The first officer was sent back to investigate and confirmed the burning fumes. I also inspected the cabin. I returned to the cockpit; declared an emergency; and returned to our departure airport. All procedures were followed and we landed safely without further incident. There were no injuries.
