Narrative:
I issued a climb to FL230 from FL220 and I continued working to get higher for the CRJ2. It went above FL245 before it asked me if FL230 was the assigned altitude. Confirming it; it descended. It busted another sector airspace before a handoff was made. It acknowledged his mistake; no separation lost; just airspace violated. I missed his readback and he may have dialed in FL320. After coordination I was able to get it higher to FL300. Nothing else was said.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ZID Controller issued air carrier climb from FL220 to FL230; aircraft initiated climb above assigned altitude; entered adjacent airspace without coordination/hand-off; missed read back listed as possible causal factor.
