Narrative:

Coming back from practice area; flew crosswind; downwind; base and final; had no indication of other traffic in area; had tested communication radio with squelch tested ok. Navigation lights were on as well as cockpit lights to be able to see all gear down indications. Winds were light and variable. After touchdown I explained to student not to brake heavily but to allow aircraft to roll out; also explained benefit of dynamic braking when student noticed aircraft on takeoff roll coming at us. We veered to left other aircraft lifted off also veering to their left. After taxing off we investigated our radio communication discovered while it squelched did not receive transmission. We are at a non-controlled airport. People do instrument approaches in training at both ends of runway all day long. Whatever the winds are vigilance is needed. I feel while I was the landing aircraft I should have used more awareness. At this time of day; the lights can play tricks. It is difficult to detect aircraft on runway on short final.
