Narrative:
I was hand flying the departure and there were widely scattered buildups around. I was trying to avoid some of these on the climbout and busted the cleared altitude of 17800' by about 400; I noticed the altitude indication turn to yellow. None of the other 3 pilots warned about the bust. I should have been on autopilot. We heard nothing from ATC and no conflict existed.
