Narrative:

Did not receive pre departure clearance at the expected 30 minutes prior to scheduled block out; thus I coordinated with captain to standby to copy any possible re-route as I contacted clearance delivery and requested pre departure clearance. Clearance delivery stated 'newark 7 departure 'cdr''. The captain; nor I; was familiar with the term 'cdr'; so we queried clearance delivery; which stated that 'our company had signed off on it and that it was to facilitate traffic flow due to enroute weather. Since neither of us had heard the verbiage 'change route to read' and; additionally; our flight plan release already had us flying a somewhat circuitous routing to include 10 pbds (place/bearing/distance points); which in itself is unusual relative to normal routing's; we responded to clearance delivery that we would call company and clarify. Route shown on flight plan release dct parke J6 eytee dct GVE295092... The captain called company; via cell phone; and relayed the clearance delivery communication and as relayed to me; company said we were cleared as per the flight plan routing due to en-route weather and winds. As fpr route showed parke J6 eytee; then began the circuitous portion made up of the 10 pbds (which we incorrectly assumed reflected the clearance delivery and company referenced route for 'traffic flow due to en-route weather'); and the clearance delivery stated clearance of parke J6 eytee 'cdr'; which matched up with fpr up until where the 10 pbds started; we verified route in FMS and pressed on with our pre-flight. All went as advertised until just south of eytee when washington center stated 'flight abc you missed your turn.' we showed that we were on course and navigating directly to our next point of GVE295092 and responded accordingly to washington center; who stated; 'if you don't show hnn as your next point we need to talk about your route. I tell you what; right turn to 270 heading; direct hnn when able.' we complied with the controller's instructions; then asked what they were showing for our flight planned route. We were given: direct hnn J134... We changed the route in the FMS and the remainder of the flight was uneventful.
