Narrative:

Taxi out notified by ATC of ground stop; cabin was extremely hot even with both engines running. Elected to start APU to supplement cabin cooling during delay. Soon after APU air augmentation was selected cabin crew notified cockpit of smoke in cabin and acrid smell. Followed applicable QRH procedures to eliminate source of smoke. Elected to have crash fire rescue equipment come and inspect aircraft. Crash fire rescue equipment team entered aircraft to confirm no other fire source other than suspect acm malfunction. During inspection by crash fire rescue equipment team the armed aft door was opened and slide was deployed with tail cone jettison.

Title: A B717's APU was started during taxi out in extremely hot weather. An air cycle machine overheated causing smoke and fumes in the cabin. While Fire and Rescue personnel were examining the aircraft the tail cone slide was activated jettisoning the tail cone.

Elected to have CFR come and inspect aircraft. CFR team entered aircraft to confirm no other fire source other than suspect ACM malfunction. During inspection by CFR team the armed aft door was opened and slide was deployed with tail cone jettison.
