Narrative:
We were on a dogleg to a down wind at sna and the first officer and I both thought we were still assigned an airspeed of 250 by a previous controller. We asked if we could slow and the controller informed us that we should be at 200 since we were below the floor of the bravo airspace. He said that neither he nor the prior controller had given us 250 but it would have to have been an earlier controller that assigned the speed and we should have told him of the speed assignment when we checked in.
