Narrative:
Taking the runway on a position-and-hold clearance; tower made a transmission that began with our callsign that was rendered completely unintelligible by the raas announcement that we were on the runway. We waited for the inane interruption to finish; then asked tower if they perhaps had a new clearance for us. They did indeed - a clearance to takeoff. Because we were actually able to hear the clearance the second time it was issued; we accepted it and took off. We were able to hear our callsign before the raas announcement blared and covered the rest of tower's transmission. We waited for raas to shut up; then asked tower if they had tried to contact us. Get rid of raas. Comments by the other pilot; as we discussed the incident once above 10;000': 'I hate the raas also; I really should be filing reports every time this happens.' 'it's only a matter of time before raas causes an accident.'
