Narrative:
While landing the aircraft touched down 8-10 ft short of runway and struck the edge of the paving. Upon turning off the runway; the nosewheel strut collapsed and prop struck the asphalt. Aircraft was secured and then towed to maintenance facility. Runway is 2100 X 60 ft and I was attempting to land near the approach end of the runway. Temperature was above normal for the area and wind was 120 degrees at 6 KTS. Aircraft weight was well within weight limitations with pilot; two passengers; and luggage aboard. Accident was the result of getting 'low and slow' and possible downdraft close in. Airport is situated on a low mesa with a drop off prior to runway 18. I have made numerous landings at this airport without incident.
