Narrative:
While descending into the ny area a clearance to cross allentown VOR at 13000' was misinterpreted to be at or below 13000' at allentown and then to be at 11000' at lissi intersection. During this descent there was a distraction in the cockpit when we received a company message. At 12600' we were queried about our altitude at allentown, then cleared to continue our descent and that there was no conflict. This was an unintentional altitude deviation. Now I know that I can happen to me! I will be more alert in the future. Supplemental information from acn 85145: I understood the descent as crossing abe at on below 13000' and lizzy at 11000'. About 3-5 mi on DME towards abe at 12600', ny called and questioned descent. We had set altitude alert on 11000' from start. Misinterp on my part.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: LGT ACR DEVIATED FROM ARTCC CLRNC TO CROSS ABE VORTAC AT 13000' AND LIZZI INTERSECTION AT 11000'. FLT DESCENDED TO 12600' 4 MILES WEST OF ABE. ZNY ALERTED FLT CREW TO ALT DEVIATION.
Narrative: WHILE DSNDING INTO THE NY AREA A CLRNC TO CROSS ALLENTOWN VOR AT 13000' WAS MISINTERPRETED TO BE AT OR BELOW 13000' AT ALLENTOWN AND THEN TO BE AT 11000' AT LISSI INTXN. DURING THIS DSCNT THERE WAS A DISTR IN THE COCKPIT WHEN WE RECEIVED A COMPANY MESSAGE. AT 12600' WE WERE QUERIED ABOUT OUR ALT AT ALLENTOWN, THEN CLRED TO CONTINUE OUR DSCNT AND THAT THERE WAS NO CONFLICT. THIS WAS AN UNINTENTIONAL ALT DEVIATION. NOW I KNOW THAT I CAN HAPPEN TO ME! I WILL BE MORE ALERT IN THE FUTURE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 85145: I UNDERSTOOD THE DSCNT AS XING ABE AT ON BELOW 13000' AND LIZZY AT 11000'. ABOUT 3-5 MI ON DME TOWARDS ABE AT 12600', NY CALLED AND QUESTIONED DSCNT. WE HAD SET ALT ALERT ON 11000' FROM START. MISINTERP ON MY PART.
