Narrative:
A little over an hour out of ZZZ we had a left hydraulic quantity EICAS message. Quantity was .50 and dropping. We shut off the left hydraulic pumps per checklist and contacted dispatch and maintenance. They asked us to return to departure airport; which we did. We landed overweight at 350;000 pounds on runway 1R; flaps 25. We had emergency equipment standing by in case there was hydraulic fluid on the brakes. We used minimum amount of braking and exited the runway at the end.
