Narrative:
Chocks inserted while aircraft was still moving and under power approaching the gate. Aircraft was 1 foot short of stop bar using the self-park system at phl gate when the chocks were inserted. The marshaller had turned us over to the self-parking system to complete the gate arrival. Power was advanced on the left engine (single engine taxi) as we were approaching the gate. The aircraft would not move with increasing thrust on the left engine as we were approaching the the final phase of forward movement. An alert supervisor standing by in a truck recognized the faulty procedure and immediately jumped out of his truck to stop us from taxiing any further. Engine was shut down and aircraft parked short of the hold line. Inadequate training; experience level; attention to detail; attitude.
