Narrative:
During climb I observed traffic ahead of us climbing slowly. We were told to climb at no more than 1200 FPM. We encountered wake turbulence and exceeded this rate. While we had TCAS and traffic in sight; I believe that we may have been too close for ATC's comfort. I stated that we had exceeded the rate for wake and were correcting. Both us and the other traffic were given headings to increase our distance. No TCAS event occurred.
