Narrative:
Start; taxi; and takeoff were normal. One hour forty-five minutes into the flight; a flight attendant from the aft galley called to say there was smoke and an electrical smell coming from one of the ovens (9C). As we were talking on the inter-phone she said she could see a bright red glow on the side of the oven and felt intense heat. A halon extinguisher was discharged into the oven. All of the ovens were turned off along with the cabin utility switch in the cockpit. The first officer went to the aft galley and confirmed that the one oven was extremely hot and glowing. An emergency was declared with havana center with an immediate divert to an airport which was approximately 115 miles away. Fuel burn was started with 163;000 pounds and terminated with 90;000 pounds. An overweight landing was accomplished at 473;000 pounds. Touchdown and sink rate were normal. The smoke; fire or fumes checklist along with all normal were checklists were accomplished. The heat in the oven had subsided by the time we landed and we taxied to parking.
