Narrative:
During descent at approximately 230 KTS selected flaps one. Trailing edge flaps split and locked out. Went to a holding pattern; informed the flight attendants; notified dispatch via ACARS; declared emergency; and completed all checklists. Proceeded to the airport for an uneventful smooth landing. After clearing runway; requested airport rescue and fire to inspect brakes and tires. We were requested to shutdown engines and were towed to gate.

Title: A B737-800's trailing edge flaps extended asymmetrically causing a flap lock out. An emergency was declared; the checklist completed and an emergency landing completed.
