Narrative:

Flap fail caution message illuminated when retracting flaps from flaps 2 to flaps 1 (flaps 2 takeoff). As pilot not flying; I followed the QRH and briefed the flight attendants and the passengers. Air return after completion of the QRH; captain noted an asymmetrical feeling as the aircraft wanted to roll to the right. We landed and had the fire crew inspect the landing gear and brake temps. The brake temps were within a range typically found after a normal landing so we taxied to the gate. Maintenance and dispatch notified.
