Narrative:
Our problem arose due to a combination of 2 factors--an ATC computer problem at ZTL and no response from ZDC once handed off to them. Originally, we were given a vector of 095 degrees from clt departure. We climbed to 11000' and were given an 090 degree vector by ZTL. We requested direct fay, but ZTL told us to make our request with ZDC on 132.4. No response from ZDC prompted us to go back to ZTL, who told us to 'stay with me.' numerous times we told him that our present heading would take us into restr area R5311. Their acknowledgement of 'continue 090 degree heading' caused us to assume that the restr area 5311 was cold. This was a sat afternoon and could logically be the case. Though they never said 'cleared through R5311,' we were told to maintain the heading more than once. Finally we were handed off to ZDC once again and they gave us an immediate left turn to 280 degrees--a course reversal--and a descent to 7000'. At this point the captain exchanged a few argumentative words with the controller who informed us that we had penetrated the restr airspace in which an air show was scheduled. By our best estimate, we were approximately 1 mi inside the boundary.

Title: ACR LGT VECTORED INTO ACTIVE RESTRICTED AREA BECAUSE OF COORD AND RDP PROBLEMS.
Narrative: OUR PROB AROSE DUE TO A COMBINATION OF 2 FACTORS--AN ATC COMPUTER PROB AT ZTL AND NO RESPONSE FROM ZDC ONCE HANDED OFF TO THEM. ORIGINALLY, WE WERE GIVEN A VECTOR OF 095 DEGS FROM CLT DEP. WE CLBED TO 11000' AND WERE GIVEN AN 090 DEG VECTOR BY ZTL. WE REQUESTED DIRECT FAY, BUT ZTL TOLD US TO MAKE OUR REQUEST WITH ZDC ON 132.4. NO RESPONSE FROM ZDC PROMPTED US TO GO BACK TO ZTL, WHO TOLD US TO 'STAY WITH ME.' NUMEROUS TIMES WE TOLD HIM THAT OUR PRESENT HDG WOULD TAKE US INTO RESTR AREA R5311. THEIR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF 'CONTINUE 090 DEG HDG' CAUSED US TO ASSUME THAT THE RESTR AREA 5311 WAS COLD. THIS WAS A SAT AFTERNOON AND COULD LOGICALLY BE THE CASE. THOUGH THEY NEVER SAID 'CLRED THROUGH R5311,' WE WERE TOLD TO MAINTAIN THE HDG MORE THAN ONCE. FINALLY WE WERE HANDED OFF TO ZDC ONCE AGAIN AND THEY GAVE US AN IMMEDIATE LEFT TURN TO 280 DEGS--A COURSE REVERSAL--AND A DSCNT TO 7000'. AT THIS POINT THE CAPT EXCHANGED A FEW ARGUMENTATIVE WORDS WITH THE CTLR WHO INFORMED US THAT WE HAD PENETRATED THE RESTR AIRSPACE IN WHICH AN AIR SHOW WAS SCHEDULED. BY OUR BEST ESTIMATE, WE WERE APPROX 1 MI INSIDE THE BOUNDARY.
