Narrative:
We departed teb runway 24 on the ruudy 2 SID. We climbed above the 1500 MSL at wentz initial climb restriction by 150 ft MSL. Cause: on climb out we selected flight level change instead of selecting VNAV on our guidance panel which caused us to climb above wentz 1500 MSL crossing restriction to level off at 2000 MSL at tasca. We know this departure and airport. No excuse! Contributing factors: teb tower called out overhead traffic landing ewr on take off clearance. We deviated our attention to the visible traffic and missed selecting VNAV on climb out. Attention was communicated to us by new york departure.
