Narrative:

Declared an emergency for low fuel after diverting to a nearby airport from our original destination; after missing the localizer approach. Flight was planned to land in VMC conditions with 8600 lbs of fuel. However; when we started the approach; a shower started which lowered the visibility to below minimums. I flew the missed approach and tried to determine if the weather would allow another attempt. I determined that it would be safer to go to our alternate than try to attempt another localizer approach. Enroute; I calculated that we would land with 30 minutes of fuel so I declared an emergency with ATC and got priority handling.
