Narrative:
During rotate and shortly after takeoff rubber residue odor; which dissipated; was detected. Odor was coincident with right main landing gear red light remaining illuminated for 7-10 seconds after all other gear lights were extinguished with gear handle up. Suspected possible tire failure; relayed to tower. Tower relayed to aircraft that no tire fragments/debris or unusual marks evident on runway. Coordination accomplished with flight attendants; dispatch; maintenance; ATC; and airfield rescue and fire fighting. Precautionary emergency declared for the arrival and appropriate checklist reviewed/utilized; including preparing the cabin for an emergency landing. Uneventful emergency landing and arrival to accomplished. Emergency canceled. Preliminary post flight inspection by maintenance revealed no tire damage.
