Narrative:
Shortly after takeoff and clean up started to notice a vibration thought it was just the usual nose wheel snubber; however as we accelerated it became worse; shortly thereafter the flight attendants called on the interphone asked if we were aware of the very bad vibration. I said yes; I told her we would try a few adjustments to see if we could alleviate it. I then adjusted power; airspeed; vertical climb; checked engine vibration; flight control page etc.; saw nothing abnormal and the vibration continued to increase slightly more. We called departure and asked to return to departure airport due to a vibration. Severe vibration in the aft portion of the airplane was noticed by flight attendants; flight crew and passengers. I know this airplane has been written up several times for the same problem not sure what actions maintenance has done.

Title: An A319 flight crew experienced strong and increasing airframe vibration commencing shortly after takeoff in an aircraft with a history of vibration write ups. Attempts at quelling the vibration were unsuccessful so the crew elected to return to the departure airport.
