Narrative:
We were descending to cross rbv 10 DME at 10000' and rbv at 8000'. As we passed through 17000' approximately 35 mi southwest of rbv, center reported VFR traffic at 12 O'clock, 8 mi, same direction at 15800'. We were just entering the ragged tops of clouds and were unable to see the traffic. We leveled off and asked for vectors. By the time we passed the VFR traffic, we were unable to meet our restriction.
